The previous post was number 2000. And I can only mention some of the interesting stuff I see. I am going to use the occasion to ask you, the reader, to let me know what subjects you are interested in. The Web is full of blogs written by professional technical journalists but they often write for other professional technical types and ignore the needs of the home PC user. I’m just a user of computers and no journalist but I can try to help the very large and often neglected audience of home PC users. However, I need your input about what would be useful. Let me hear from you. Leave a comment or suggestion. Maybe you can even write a post yourself.

How to make a comment on a post

This announcement will stay on top for a while to give readers a chance to read it.

One of the purposes of a blog is to have discussion and comments. The ideal would be for comments to be open for anybody to make. Sadly, the spammers have made that ideal impossible. Automated spam commentary would simply innundate a blog. As time has gone on, I have had to add ever more anti-spam measures to protect the blog from floods of spam. Unfortunately, that makes it more onerous for legitimate readers to make comments. I have been requiring someone to be registered and logged in before a comment could be made but some readers are finding this too much hassle. So I am going to try an experiment- you won’t have to be logged in to leave a comment. You will, however, still have to fill out a form. The first time you make a comment, I will have to approve it and there will be a wait before it appears. But once you have made an approved comment, further comments will not be held in the approval queue. I look forward to hearing from you.

To make a comment, click on the entry below a post that says “No comments” or “N comments”, where N is an integer. Comments with excessively foul language or abusive content will be deleted at my discretion.

Time for a change

The world of technology is ever changing and likewise must this blog change, When I began it almost three years ago, the idea was to provide some tips and news about Windows to my SeniorNet colleagues and students. The actual readers are much more varied than that and Windows is less the focus of home computing than it once was. A great deal of the blog content has little to do with Windows. So it seems time for a name change to reflect the actual content and readership.

Along with the name change comes a revamp of the format. Please take a minute and let me know your opinion of the changes. Nothing is fixed in stone and any good suggestions that improve usability or appearance will be gratefully received.

Also there has been yet another update of the Wordpress software used here. Please let me know of any glitches that you might encounter.

Elsewhere it may be different but in the part of the world where I live not much work will get done for the next few days as we celebrate Christmas and the New Year. Any posting I do will be erratic for the next week. In the meantime, happy holidays to all who observe them!

Problems with host software update

The service that hosts this blog updated some software early Sunday morning. Unfortunately, the service had some PHP problems and this blog was knocked out. As luck would have it, I was traveling and had to try to jerry-rig a temporary solution using a flaky hotel wireless Internet connection. Anyway, we are up again but there are still some kinks I have to deal with. Let me know if you have any trouble viewing the blog.
