Technology constantly changes and what was frontline yesterday is passé today. But sometimes the tech journalists sound like technology is a graveyard or at least a ward for the dying . No sooner has a company achieved some prominence than the blogs start talking about its death or they go on about how some well-established company is declining into obsolescence. I’ve already written about all the wailing over the supposed death of the PC. And of course there are plenty of bytes being used for declaring Apple to be on the decline. Now it’s Facebook that they say is on a downslope. I know it’s supposed to attract readers (and advertising clicks) when you headline a story “The Death of X” but this has become tiresome. The link-bait gimmick has been so overused that I wonder if anyone pays attention any more.
