The end of support for Windows XP?
You may have read reports that Windows XP will lose support from Microsoft on April 14. For several reasons, that is misleading. It is true that one type of Microsoft support will end. However, it is the type of support that concerns business users much more than the home user. Security patches and their support will continue for another five years. What you won’t be able to do is call up Microsoft with a general Windows XP question and get a free answer. But many home users couldn’t do that anyway. Most home PCs come with an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) license. That means you are supposed to call Dell or HP or whoever sold you the PC when you have a Windows problem. Microsoft was never supposed to support those systems. You may note that even today, PCs (mostly netbooks) are being sold with Windows XP Home. These systems remain supported because it’s the OEM that provides the support.
