Restore the Run line to the Vista start menu
The Start-Run line is very useful in Windows XP but Microsoft decided to more or less supersede it in Vista with the Start Search facility. The Run line is omitted from the Start menu in the default Vista configuration but it can be restored. There are still times when I want to use the Run line in Vista and I have written about how to get it back at another site. However, the subject comes up frequently so I am repeating the procedure here.
To open the Run line temporarily in Vista, use the keyboard combination
Windows key + r
To add the Run line to the Vista Start menu permanently:
- Right-click on the Start orb and choose "Properties"
- Select the "Start Menu" tab and click on the "Customize…" button
- In the list of customization choices, place a check by the "Run command" option
- Click “OK”
