Intrusion prevention software
Intrusion prevention (AKA “host intrusion prevention system” or HIPS) is a method of defending against malware by monitoring the actions of programs. Instead of the standard method of using a database of malware signatures, this method defends by looking at what a potential malware does rather than looking at its actual code. I have been advocating this method for what seems like years since it frees the defense from having to know the details of the code of every piece of malware that crops up. Major security suites are finally beginning to incorporate some of this defense.
Tech Support Alert has been an advocate of HIPS and in a recent article reviews its selections for the best free HIPS programs. The top pick is Drive Sentry. I haven’t personally used this program. If you have used it, let us know your experience.
