Microsoft Fix-it revisited

Back in January, I mentioned a new Microsoft feature in knowledge base articles that would apply a recommended fix by way of a piece of software that you download. Microsoft called it Fix-it and the feature has been getting more attention lately. Microsoft has been adding Fix-it solutions and has a link where they are listed.

Out of curiousity, I tried a couple of Fix-its that involved Registry edits. (Something I knew how to easily reverse.) The procedure involves running a Microsoft installer file (extension MSI). Editing the Registry is a straightforward (if possibly dangerous) procedure and the Microsoft Fix-it files worked as they were supposed to. An experienced PC user could just do the Registry edit the usual way but for average PC users, Fix-it provides a painless alternative.
