Change Windows automatic reboot
In many Windows PCs, the default setting is to automatically reboot after a system crash. That is not always convenient since you may want to try to decipher the error message on a Blue Screen of Death. Or sometimes, the automatic reboot may get you into an endless cycle of crashing and rebooting. Therefore, you may want to change the default.
In Windows XP the procedure is:
- Right-click My Computer, and then open “Properties”.
- Click the “Advanced” tab.
- Under “Startup and Recovery”, click the “Settings” button.
- In the “Startup and Recovery” dialog box, uncheck “Automatically restart”.
- Click “OK” and “OK”
In Windows Vista the procedure is:
- Right-click Computer, and then open “Properties”.
- In the left pane under Tasks, click “Advanced system settings”.
- Approve the action in the UAC dialog that opens.
- In the System Properties dialog box, click the “Settings” button in the section “Startup and Recovery”.
- In the “Startup and Recovery” dialog box, uncheck “Automatically restart”.
- Click “OK” and “OK”.
