Windows 7 progress report
The first beta version of Windows 7 has been available to selected testers for a while and last night Steve Ballmer announced that the general public would get a chance to download it this coming Friday. (BTW, it’ll be a long download.) Here’s a selection of links to what some reviewers have been saying about Windows 7:
- Windows 7 beta: First impressions
- Windows 7 beta 1 review
- Windows 7 beta 1 performance – How does the OS compare to Vista and XP?
- Six Vista annoyances fixed in Windows 7
- Six new annoyances introduced in Windows 7
If you want to try out the beta 1 version of Windows 7, keep in mind that any beta software should only be installed on a test machine. The beta version has a time expiration built in.
Addendum: I don’t think most home PC users should be involved with beta software but, if you wish to know how to download the Windows 7 beta, there is information at this link: FAQ: How to get the Windows 7 beta

I found these reviews very informative, but thier was no mention about upgrading from Vista, only info about taking the new aystem out of the box. I am happy with Vista (preloaded when I bought a new PC), and the six for and against was particularly helpfull. There is not enough of a revolution which the hype is saying to make me abandon Vista just yet.
