What next for Microsoft?
For most PC users, Microsoft is a dominant presence. In many ways, it is the company that calls the tune. So everybody is interested in the directions that Microsoft might take in the future. As we start a new year, I have collected a number of links commenting on Microsoft, past and future. Although (or perhaps, because) Microsoft is by far the biggest software company, there is a lot of negative comment. Microsoft is not a lovable company and there are ample grounds for complaint but the level of negativity in the links I come across seems a little overdone to me. Beating up on Microsoft is one way to attract page hits so that may partly account for the slant of the commentary that I have seen. Vista’s poor reception is also a factor.
For what it’s worth, here is what some observers have been saying about Microsoft and its products:
- Analysis: Is Microsoft’s IE Flaw The Last Nail In Its Desktop Coffin?
- If Windows is a dead end, what’s next?
- For Windows, 2008 Was a Roller Coaster
- Five Possible Paths for Microsoft
- Can Microsoft innovate? Should we care?
- Windows Vista: A testament to monopoly power
- I really don’t want to use Windows anymore

What’s your opinion about where Microsoft is going? Is Microsoft on the decline?
