Where did Vista go wrong?
No matter how you slice it, Windows Vista is not one of Microsoft’s shining successes. Microsoft can boast of 180 million copies shipped but that just shows that a monopoly can sell almost anything. Microsoft fanboys aside, there’s a lot of grousing about Vista in the computer world. So what happened? Where did Vista go wrong?
TechRepublic Editor-in-Chief Jason Hiner gives an answer from a business point of view in a post The top five reasons why Windows Vista failed.
My own take is that Vista is not a “bad” system but it is definitely disappointing. Here are some reasons why I think many have a poor opinion of Vista:
- Microsoft made many promises that were not kept and it over-hyped Vista
- Vista was late but was still released too soon
- The system is too complicated and slow
- The hardware requirements are very heavy
- Drivers weren’t ready
- Security measures are heavy-handed
- No compelling new feature for many users, except possibly security
- It costs too much
- Windows XP is good enough for many users
What’s your opinion? Is Vista a dog or the best OS yet?
