Comments on Windows Vista and Seven
Periodically, I cite blogs from Adrian Kingsley-Hughes. He impresses me as an even-handed and knowledgeable writer about the technical scene. In the last several days, he has had a number of interesting posts about Windows Vista and Windows 7. Rather than make a separate entry about each, I am going to list them in one place for your weekend reading. Monday is the Labor Day holiday in the US so American readers have an extra day to do some reading.
- Hey Microsoft! How about some more dialog about Vista before moving on to Windows 7?
- Windows 7 wishes
- “Why do you hate Vista so much?”
- Windows 7 must avoid the marketing trap that Vista stumbled into
- Windows 7 pricing thoughts – Is Windows too expensive?
No, I don’t know Mr. Kingsley-Hughes personally. It’s just that I think he often comments on issues of interest to the average PC user in an understandable way and he doesn’t seem to have an axe to grind. Too many of those who blog about computer subjects assume that the readers are all trained IT professionals. Many are also biased in favor of a particular technology or company.
An example is my complaint that I keep reading how usable Vista is if you “only” spend a day (or several days) tweaking this and adjusting that and then do a few Registry edits. You might as well ask the average PC user to build a computer from scratch. Kingsley-Hughes covers that point nicely on page 2 of his article on why Vista is a disappointment.
