The future Microsoft operating system?

Dribs and drabs about a completely new Microsoft operating system (code named “Midori”) trickle out every now and then. I posted about Midori a couple of weeks ago and today we got another little bit of information about this system from the SD Times. It seems that Microsoft has become aware that Windows can’t go on forever without collapsing from code bloat and that Web 2.0 may replace many of the desktop functions. The SD Times article begins:

Microsoft is incubating a componentized non-Windows operating system known as Midori, which is being architected from the ground up to tackle challenges that Redmond has determined cannot be met by simply evolving its existing technology.

SD Times has viewed internal Microsoft documents that outline Midori’s proposed design, which is Internet-centric and predicated on the prevalence of connected systems.

It’s a fairly long article and if you wade through the jargon, it’s got some interesting hints at where things are going. Of course, details are scarce at this stage.
