What’s known about Windows 7

Microsoft is keeping mum about its next operating system but the lack of enthusiasm for Vista is keeping interest in Windows 7 at a high level. Mary Jo Foley has made a list of the little bits of information that have trickled out so far. The possible points of most interest to home users are that Windows 7 may be more modular and that it won’t be a major upgrade.

Added later: If you want to read what Microsoft has to say about Windows 7 (not much), there is a new blog entry from the development team. One interesting point is the statement:

Contrary to some speculation, Microsoft is not creating a new kernel for Windows 7. Rather, we are refining the kernel architecture and componentization model introduced in Windows Vista.
