EU approves Google-DoubleClick deal
Despite heavy opposition from Microsoft and others, the European Union has approved Google’s purchase of the advertising company DoubleClick. Although Microsoft tried hard to block the deal, both in the US and the EU, the merger may help Microsoft get EU approval for its increasingly likely purchase of Yahoo. Yahoo is still trying to fight against a Microsoft takeover but the prospects for Yahoo to remain independent are receding.
