Windows XP SP3 coming soon

Are you Windows XP users tired of hearing about Vista SP1? Well, your day is coming. According to Mary Jo Foley:

Clues that Microsoft is ready to announce the final version of Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3 are starting to mount.

Microsoft officials have maintained that the company is planning to deliver the final SP3 bits some time in the first half of 2008.

But on February 19, Microsoft posted the release notes (version 1.0) for XP SP3, a sign that the final service pack might be ready to roll out earlier than many expected.

Don’t expect big things from this service pack, however. From what I read, it is mostly a rollup of previous patches and some security updates. Don’t forget, XP is on the way out as far as Microsoft is concerned. For example, after June 30, OEMs will no longer be able to sell systems with XP.
