Comodo firewall

A firewall is a must for any PC and those who feel that the Windows one-way version is inadequate can choose from a number of offerings. I want a firewall that is just a firewall and does not try to incorporate a lot of other features so my Windows XP systems still have an older version of the free ZoneAlarm (ZA) that works just fine. Some PC users do not like it when a firewall asks about outgoing programs and want the firewall to be intelligent enough to recognize safe programs or even to ignore outgoing traffic. I don’t agree that a program will know what I consider safe until I tell it and am happy to get the queries from ZA about things that try to connect to the outside. I don’t want anything phoning home that I do not know about and that includes “safe” Microsoft. Unfortunately, ZA has not been the same since it was bought by CheckPoint and the newer versions have had problems. So if you are looking for a new firewall that is free, I can’t recommend it. One free firewall that gets good reviews is from Comodo and Neil Rubenking has a favorable assessment of the latest version at PC Magazine.

I agree with your sentiments regarding firewalls. Another alternative to Comodo is the Online Armor firewall, which Scot Finnie has commented on favorably his blog.

I haven’t tried it myself, but it appears to be worth a look. There are paid and free versions. The web site is here:
