Will AMD survive?

I noted in a previous post that AMD was having financial trouble. I also commented that consumers should hope for AMD to survive because no good would come of a virtual Intel monopoly. This past year AMD blotted their previous good record with some inferior products and Intel is now on a roll. Marketwatch commented:

It has been one of the worst years for the Sunnyvale chip maker since its major turnaround that began at the start of this decade, during which it became a serious force for rival Intel Corp. to contend with.

PC World looks at the chances for AMD:

In 2007, AMD was plagued by rising debt, shrinking market share, and mounting financial losses. What’s in store for 2008?

Let’s all hope AMD survives to keep Intel on its toes. I have no connection with either company; I am looking at the situation purely as a consumer.
