A nationwide Apple wireless network?
The previous post concerns speculation about what Google will do with the 700-MHz spectrum if it wins in the upcoming auction. However, Google may not be the only participant with the deep pockets that are needed (an estimated $9 billion). There is also speculation that Apple may participate in the auction:
It might sound far-fetched, but Apple is reportedly considering bidding in the Federal Communications Commission’s upcoming auction of the 700 MHz wireless spectrum. Citing two anonymous sources, BusinessWeek reports that Cupertino has “studied the implications of joining the spectrum auctionâ€
And then there is the third possibility that Apple and Google will do something jointly. After all, Google CEO Eric Schmidt is on the Apple board of directors.
