If Dell provides a real Windows installation disk, I salute them. Neither IBM/Lenovo nor HP have provided one with my last few purchases. HP will sell you a restore disk for $10 but not a real Windows installation disk.

It's strange how Dell keeps going round and round on this issue. Several years ago I helped a sibling purchase a Dell. I wanted to be sure that a genuine install CD was included, not just one of those restore CDs (basically a disk image) that used to be so common. Among the options was just what I was looking for - a genuine XP install CD for an additional $10. Fair enough.

More recently, I helped a friend purchase a Dell system. I couldn't find any option like the one mentioned above, so I called Dell and they said it was included, although I couldn't find any mention of this anywhere on the site. When the system arrived, it was included as promised. To my knowledge, they have always included a separate CD with all the necessary drivers.
