Using the Windows key-How does “Minimize All” differ from “Show Desktop”?

In a previous post, I listed some of the shortcuts that are available that use the so-called “Windows key”. (That’s the key with the Windows flag logo Windows logo on it.) Among the shortcuts is one that minimizes all windows, Windows key+M. There is also the shortcut that shows the Desktop, Windows key+D. At first glance they seem to do the same thing but there is a difference, as explained by senior Microsoft developer Raymond Chen. Basically the difference is that not all windows or dialog boxes have a minimize function so that they are unaffected by the “Minimize All” shortcut. “Show Desktop” will send these unminimizable windows behind the Desktop so that they are hidden.
