Oldies but goodies
The latest version of an application is not always the best. In their attempt to get people to keep buying new versions of an application, software companies often load up applications with added features that are not needed or that even cause problems. More than once, I have seen a program made worse by trying to do more. And, of course, new versions of a program may not work on older systems. There are still quite a few people running Windows 98 and they are often out of luck when a new version of an application comes out.
If there is an older program that you are looking for, quite a few are still available at http://www.oldapps.com/. I found the site by way of Bill Pytlovany’s blog. (He’s the man behind WinPatrol, one of my favorite applications.) Another possible place to find some of the older apps is MajorGeeks. And yet another is OldVersion.com. A Google search will show quite a few others.
