Daylight saving time problem

Windows has a built-in routine for changing the system to and from daylight saving time (DST). Unfortunately, the algorithm that has been used in the past is no longer correct. Congress changed the date when DST starts and ends. The start of DST was moved back three weeks and now begins on the second Sunday in March. This is the year that the changes go into effect and a lot of computers are going to have the wrong time for a while unless they are patched.

Microsoft has a site with a lot of details about how various systems could be affected. If you have not already received it as part of the regular update process, you can download the patch for Windows XP here. There’s no support for Windows 98/Me or 2000 but you can adjust the time manually.

Of course, I should have pointed out that I was talking about US time. Other countries have their own ways of implementing DST.
