Enough already about Vista

It’s amazing how the Internet columns just keep droning on and on about every word or twitch that comes from Microsoft. For example, I am very tired of the interminable barrage of articles about every little feature that Windows Vista might or might not have. This has been going on for many months (or is it years? It seems like it.) Microsoft keeps dribbling out non-news and the columnists lap it up. They have perfected this technique in Redmond so that all Microsoft products seem to get constantly written about long before they are actually available. Sometimes, in fact, Microsoft announces something that never actually materializes, hence the term vaporware. Windows Vista has undergone a lot of changes since it was first publicized and many of its highly touted features like the new file system have been dropped. Even its name has changed. This operating system is still not a finished product and I would not be surprised if Bill Gates himself was unsure about what exactly will be on the final release. So why are so many words being spewed out every time somebody in Redmond beats the drums and says that Vista is the greatest thing since sliced bread? Let’s have the actual commercial release and then review the features.
