How to really remove Norton programs
I’ve railed a few times in these pages about the intrusiveness of Norton anti-virus and other Symantec programs. The fact that Norton is a great big drag on computer performance has been noted by many and is documented at this reference for Norton Internet Security 2006. Many installation problems and faulty product activations have also been reported. A lot of PC users have therefore ended up trying to uninstall some Norton program. They then discover that getting rid of all traces of Norton just can’t be done by normal ways. I have almost, but not quite, succeeded by spending large amounts of time cleaning out all sorts of nooks and crannies in the Registry but I don’t recommend that to anybody. Steve Bass has some comments on the problem and notes that Symantec actually has a program to rid your system of their stuff. That’s right- the problem of removing Norton was so bad that the company has had to provide some special software to get rid of their stuff. The Norton Removal Tool can be downloaded at this page.
