Buying a new computer

PC World reports that demand for desktop PCs is drying up, which may mean some good deals will be in the offing. Of course, a big reason for the drop in sales is the imminent availability of the Windows Vista operating system. However, if you are willing to stick with Windows XP for a year or so, taking advantage of the reduced prices could be a good idea. For some pointers on buying a new computer see this additional PC World article.

Personally, I don’t think that avoiding Vista for a year or so is such a bad idea for many people. There are bound to be quite a few bugs to be ironed out and it isn’t at all clear how many hardware companies have updated drivers ready as yet. Then there is the problem that many older software programs are going to have glitches when running in Vista. I think Windows XP is going to be around for quite a while.
