Guided Help for Microsoft Knowledge Base articles

The Microsoft Knowledge Base (MSKB) is a very large collection of articles about Microsoft products. It is the primary source for much of the information about Windows. Although the articles are often written in Microsoft-speak and require translation, it is a treasure-trove of ways to tweak or configure your system. Many of the procedures described involve the Registry and come with Microsoft’s usual unnecessarily dire warnings about how messing with the Registry may blow up your computer. This acts as a self-defeating mechanism since it scares off many people from carrying out the procedure described in the article, even if they could figure out what was said.

Microsoft seems to have now recognized that the articles in MSKB are not providing as much help to average computer users as they could. The company has added something new to assist in carrying out tasks or procedures described in the MSKB articles. It is a program called “Guided Help” that can be downloaded. It is described here. According to Microsoft:

Guided Help is a program that you can download from some Microsoft Knowledge Base articles. Depending on the task, Guided Help can automatically perform the task that is described in the article, or Guided Help can guide you through the steps to perform the task yourself.
