The mysterious “Application” key
I recently wrote about the Windows key on desktop keyboards and what it does.
As I noted, many PC owners don’t know what that key is for. Even fewer know what the function of the Application key might be (shown on the right). This is the key usually between the Windows key and the Ctrl key on the right-side of the keyboard. As far as I know, it has one function. When pressed, it will show the context menu (also called the “shortcut” menu) for a selected object. This is the same menu that is obtained by right-clicking a file or folder. The many uses of the context menu are discussed here.
If any reader knows of another use for the Applications key, please let us know by making a comment or by sending me an email.
