Customize your Start menu (continued)

In a previous entry I showed how you can turn off the “Recently used programs” section of the Start menu. Instead of disabling this feature entirely, you can just customize which programs are allowed to appear on the menu. The free Microsoft Power Toy “TweakUI” has a function that makes this easy. (More information on TweakUI is in an earlier entry.) Open TweakUI and click on the “Taskbar and Start menu” section. Then click “Start Menu”. The figure below shows the window that will be open. It contains a scrollable list of all the programs that might be placed in the “Recently used programs” section of the Start menu. To prevent a program from appearing , remove the check by its name.
