How to change the case of a file name in Windows

As mentioned in the previous entry, Windows does not distinguish between upper and lower case in file names. Sometimes, however, you may want to change the case of one or more letters in a file name. This is not uncommon when maintaining a website. If you try to change case by using the usual Windows procedure to rename a file, it won’t work because Windows thinks that you are trying to rename a file with the same name. FTP programs will let you change case on a server but if you want to change case on a Windows computer, you have to use an indirect method. Temporarily change the file name to something else by adding an extra letter or other simple change. Then rename the file back to the original but with the desired case changes.
