What’s new in Firefox 1.5

For a description of the changes in the new version of the Firefox browser go to this Firefox site.

I have been using the new version for a day or so and on the surface version 1.5 is the same. However, under the hood some good things have happened. For example, better support for CSS standards will be of interest to Web developers. For the average PC user, I think that the most important change is the default option of automatic updates. Previous versions of Firefox made updating too obscure for the average PC user. With this change, I think Firefox is now clearly a safer browser than Internet Explorer 6. Mozilla’s response to the discovery of security holes is much faster than at Microsoft and with automatic updating users of Firefox will be quickly protected when security patches are necessary. Microsoft sometimes takes months to fix a problem in IE.
