Windows Power Toys

Most experienced PC users already know about them but I find that a lot of average users have never heard of “Power Toys”. Ever since Windows 95, Microsoft has made available a suite of free accessories with this name for each version of Windows. These are tools that the Microsoft developers find useful but which are not included in the operating system and are unsupported. The one that I find most useful is TweakUI, which provides an easy way to make a number of Registry tweaks. A number of others exist and lately several have been added to the list for Windows XP. A recent one is “SyncToy”. SyncToy can help you copy, move, and synchronize different directories.

An article in PC Magazine gives a description of all the “toys”. You can download the accessories at this Microsoft link.
